Published: 13/02/2017

Unlike several other big cities around the world, London is full of life. Whether you’re after an evening of partying, theatre, sport or food, London has it all.
However, when it comes to food, London is particularly unique as it has a constant influx of pop-up restaurants, which bring the newest flavours from round the world to your palate. Without further ado, we present to you some of London’s best pop-up restaurants for this month. Read on…

Club Mexicana at Pamela (428 Kingsland Road, E8 4AA) is a unique pop-up that defies preconceptions. This all-vegan Mexican street-food has been an absolute hit, serving reasonably priced and astoundingly varied dishes. Everything is made from scratch: they grind their own masa to make tacos, giving them a really fresh and crisp taste. Their suppliers are all independent and provide them with ethically and sustainably sourced ingredients – no need to feel any post-meal guilt! Their dishes are reasonably priced, ranging from £4.50 for Mexican street corn served with chipotle mayo, ancho chilli crumb and lime zest, up to £8.50 for their incredible jackfruit tinga masa pancake. They’re open up until the end of the year, so that gives plenty of time to go for a visit or two.
Next up is Borough Plates, in – you guessed it – Borough (1 Cathedral Street, SE1 9AL). As a spin-out of Borough market, they’ve launched their very own restaurant, working in conjunction with Cuisson London, pop-up restaurant experts. What makes this special is that they’ve sourced all their ingredients from resident traders and farmers, resulting in a seasonal menu that is guaranteed to be from the freshest ingredients available. Inexpensive, their dishes range from £6 to £16 pounds. The menu usually contains around 10 dishes, including a pork rillettes served with pickled russet apples and apple gel; blood sausage, poached egg, salt & pepper lardo, pickled mushrooms and bacon jam; and delicious raw milk panna cotta with spiced & caramelised pear and pink merengue for dessert. They’re open between noon and 10pm up to the end of February. Get booking!

If you love skiing and cosiness, this one’s just for you. The Lodge, Clapham (409 Clapham Road, SW9 9BT), is like a holiday to a French chalet too late into April. There probably won’t be any snow, but you’ll stay indoors and have lots of cheese. There’s more than cheese, though – plenty of hot food, warm drinks and a lovely, private dining room. The menu boasts wild board & apple sausages, gin-cured salmon and mulled wine. The Lodge has an a la carte menu, Sunday menu and groups menu, so there’s plenty to choose from if you make this a repeat event. Open through winter, it’s best to go before it gets too warm – although that never really happens in England!
Potentially the king of pop-ups is Boxpark Croydon. It’s basically the Mecca of pop-up restaurants. Why? There are thirty-five restaurants to choose from, ranging from pizza to Taiwanese street food, tapas to donuts, and juiceries to triple-cooked chips. It’s one of those places where even the fussiest eater on earth would find their perfect meal and enjoy it thoroughly. Within Boxpark Croydon is Donde Tapas (dontetapas.com), who use Quality Spanish ingredients to create simple and affordable recipes ranging from sit-down meals to an artisan sandwich, perfect for a fast paced worker or commuter. Also present is Poptata, which originated a year ago in a temporary gazebo at Portobello road market, serving chips and cheesy fries. Simple is good! Last but not least, for those with a sweet tooth, is Dum Dum Donutterie. It’s part of a mission to create the world’s best doughnut, offering a variety of flavours including pistachio, strawberries & cream, toffee apple and crème brulee. Their selection is incredible, and not to be missed. Boxpark is around for the next five years, giving you plenty of time to try everything there is to offer.
